This
somewhat faded page is the inside cover of the punishment book.
It details the local school authority's policy for the
administration of corporal punishment. Similar rules existed in
every school and every school authority in the country.
The
law required that all cases of corporal punishment were recorded
but the level at which this was observed varied from school to
school. Where punishments were delegated to just a few senior
members of staff records were indeed kept but in schools which
allowed all staff to use the cane many simply did not bother
entering the whackings given. Few, if any, cased of the slipper
were recorded in this way.
